I have always been fascinated by homes...not the physical wood, steel and brick that a residential property is constructed with, but with the essence, soul, spirit of a home.
The make up, the smell, the dwellers; both material and personal excites me. It fuels my senses and it makes me feel alive when I am privileged to enter the open doors of a strangers' home, only to leave with a piece of their personal space, tightly tucked in the crevices of my memories. I love homes and as much as I dislike to admit it, this whole business of residential appraising could actually be my purpose, my passion, my way....
I see my job of valuating a personal, emotional investment as more than crunching numbers, more than scrutinizing characteristics of what the world sees as value and arriving at the end result...it has become an art of fusing objective reasoning and subjective taste in order to determine a worth, a price... an opinion of one's most prized possession; their home.
The journey of being welcomed into these homes, for various financial reasons, has definitely left a mark on my personal views about people, life, circumstances and various life styles co-existing in various neighborhoods. I have come to really take this career path with more zealous responsibility and I marvel at the day to day knowledge I gain from mastering the trade of residential valuation.
I have seen and experienced interesting people, properties and have always desired to share with like-minded people who care to read random thoughts, such as this.
I want to share my love of homes, my love of this occupation through the only outlet I know how...writing. I often remind myself of what Confuscious would say, "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step," which is the catalyst of my random thoughts being poured out this morning.
